Is Prediabetes Curable ? The Surprising Truth About its Curability

Updated: Feb 9, 2023

YES, Prediabetes can be revered.

What's Prediabetes Range

Perfect lifestyle modification can cut the risk of developing diabetes in the near future. You can always start with baby steps like by choosing healthy food options, controlling portion size and increasing physical activity. Even if anyone of the readings of blood sugars is normal, it will cut down the risk of developing by half. Foodogma has prepared an Indian diet plan for pre-diabetes which will help you in avoiding the medicines and getting your blood sugar to normal.

Being told you have prediabetes isn’t a death sentence. It can be a wake-up call to pay more attention to your body and make changes that will lead to a longer, healthier life.

Prediabetes is a condition in which individuals have higher than normal blood glucose levels, but not high enough to be diagnosed as Type 2 diabetes. If you have prediabetes, you are at a high risk for developing type 2 diabetes. Within the next five years,15-30 percent of people with prediabetes will develop type 2 diabetes. Once a person has been diagnosed with diabetes, it can be managed, but it never goes away. Act before the problem arises!

Prediabetes Sugar Level

Results indicating prediabetes are: An A1C of 5.7%–6.4%

Fasting blood sugar of 100–125 mg/dl.

An OGTT 2 hour blood sugar of 140 mg/dl–199 mg/dl.

Prediabetes: 5.7% to 6.4%

Diabetes: 6.5% or higher

Normal: less than 5.7%

Prediabetes Glucose

How Your Body Should Use Insulin?

When your body uses insulin properly, it works like this:

  • Your glucose (blood sugar) rises after you eat.

  • Your pancreas releases insulin, which unlocks your cells.

  • Your unlocked cells are then able to use the glucose for energy.

Prediabetes VS Insulin Resistance

What Happens If Your Body is Insulin Resistant?

If your body is insulin resistant, here’s what happens:

  • Your glucose (blood sugar) rises after you eat.

  • Your pancreas releases insulin, but your cells resist the insulin and the glucose isn’t introduced to the cells efficiently.

  • The glucose stays in your blood (keeping your blood sugar levels high) because your cells aren’t burning the glucose for energy.

Over time, high blood sugar levels damage your cells and may lead to nerve damage, blood vessel and organ damage, cardiovascular disease and more.
